Lydgate School is leading the way

PUPILS at Lydgate School have been praised for their hard work in a report by Ofsted Government inspectors.

The New Mill school which caters for children with complex learning needs was one of only seven nationwide inspected as part of a new framework.

The report following the inspection in November found the school to be a good school overall and praised the relaxed atmosphere, purposeful environment and pupils’ enjoyment of school life.

It said pupils of all ages and with many different needs were supported, nurtured and challenged and, as a result, made good progress academically and socially.

The report found that parents’ views are extremely positive and they thoroughly appreciate the difference that Lydgate has made to their children’s learning and well-being.

The new inspections focus more on pupils’ attainment and their progress in relation to their starting points at the school.

There is a big emphasis on safeguarding procedures in the new framework.

In a letter to pupils, inspectors said Lydgate is a good school where the staff really care.
