A DEDICATED community servant has died aged 86.
Hilda Smith, of Wooldale, was active in the Holme Valley for many years as a councillor, preacher and anti-crime activist.
Mrs Smith was born at Station Road in Holmfirth in October 1922 and attended Honley Grammar School before going to work in Wakefield for the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.
While there, she met John and the couple married in March 1950.
She leaves three sons, seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mrs Smith, who lived on Clifton Avenue in Wooldale, was accredited as a Methodist preacher in 1944.
She was active in the community, serving on Kirklees Council, Holme Valley Parish Council, Holmfirth Civic Society, Holme Valley Crime Prevention Panel, Holmfirth Accident Prevention Committee and Huddersfield Rural Police Community Forum.
In 1995 Mrs Smith was given the Examiner’s Pride in Huddersfield award in recognition of her work.
She died at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary on December 4. Her funeral takes place at 2.30pm next Monday at Wooldale Methodist Church.
