Former Olympic judge from Huddersfield dies on his weekly swim

A WELL-KNOWN member of the diving community who judged events at the Olympic Games died during his weekly swim.
Sydney Boothroyd, of New Hey Road, Mount, suffered a brain haemorrhage at Halifax Swimming Pool.
Wife Gillian, 60, who was due to go on holiday to Barbados with her husband and family this weekend, said: “He died with his trunks on doing what he loved.”
The 62-year-old Mr Boothroyd, who was known as Syd, worked as a national diving judge for more than 40 years.
He had started diving as a youngster and entered competitions for the White Rose Diving Club.
He won more than 20 county titles.
He went on to judge at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in 1986, the Sydney and Athens Olympic Games in 2000 and 2004 respectively and the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne and Manchester.
