Man told he would never walk again has climbed Snowdon

DOCTORS told biking enthusiast Nigel Bolton he might never walk again after two serious accidents in the 1970s.

So it’s fair to say the former Huddersfield man well and truly confounded any remaining doubters when he climbed one of Britain’s highest peaks on crutches earlier this year.

Nigel, 52, overcame huge odds to make the four-and-a-half hour ascent in aid of a hospice.

Not content with conquering Snowdon, Wales’ highest peak, he now has his sights set on climbing Britain’s biggest mountain, Ben Nevis in Scotland, next year.

And he is hoping the his example will prove to others that they should not give up.

Speaking from his father Jack’s Highburton home, he said: “I broke my leg in three places, tore my knee apart, fractured my skull and had major spinal injuries.

“I suffered severe paralysis, was unconscious for a while and was told that my mobility would be virtually nil for the rest of my life.

“But I have persevered and persevered.

“I wasn’t just going to sit back and be beaten. You should never give up.”
