Suspended driver found at cab wheel
Dec 19 2008 by Andrew Hirst, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
POLICE found a taxi driver who had been suspended was still driving cab.
Officers also seized stolen cars in the two-day anti-crime blitz in Birstall and Birkenshaw early this week and found taxis with serious defects.
It was the latest in a spate of Kirklees Focus days where police hit an area in a highly visible way.
Officers from the Batley Neighbourhood Policing Team joined forces with crime reduction officers, Kirklees Council, Kirklees Community Safety, Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA), Environmental Rangers and West Yorkshire Trading Standards.
During the campaign officers stopped a Leeds taxi driver which checks later revealed had been suspended.
Two stolen cars were also seized.
Fixed penalty notices were given for offences such as mobile phone and tyres. Five vehicles were seized for having no licence or insurance and one person arrested for disqualified driving.
