Taxibus service cut to two days a week

A BUS service which averages less than one passenger per journey has been cut back.

The service was under threat of being axed altogether.

But following protests by the public, councillors instead decided to reduce the Colne Valley Taxibus from five to two days a week.

The hourly service links the outlying hamlets of Bradshaw, Wilberlee, Pole Moor, Outlane, Scapegoat Hill and Crimble to Slaithwaite.

It also deviates from its route to collect or drop off passengers. During off-peak times it can also be called by passengers to pick them up at a pre-arranged time.

Since the Taxi-bus service was introduced it has become vital to many people living in the Colne Valley area.

The seven-seat vehicle connects Slaithwaite railway station with all parts of the village and the hamlets on the north side of the valley.

Kirklees Council was considering axing the bus altogether but the council’s Cabinet has now decided to scale back the service.
