Church mourns for road death couple
Dec 23 2008 by Neil Atkinson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Sheffield church treasurer Tim Doyle rushed outside when he realised what had happened and used a curtain to cover the victims.
He said: “The worst thing was we were there and we tended the two of them while the emergency services came and we didn’t recognise them or know who they were.
“When we found out it was a great shock and we are all absolutely devastated.”
Sue Davison, who had known the couple for around five years, said Sally had difficulty getting around and was forced to walk with sticks as she suffered from osteoporosis and arthritis.
“Sally was a medium and even though she wasn’t local she liked to come down when there was something on. Her husband went everywhere with her because she couldn't walk outside on her own. They were very popular because they did so much for charity.”
An inquest is expected to open later this week.
