Addict jailed for attack on 92-year-old

He said Astin had a history of targeting elderly and vulnerable people.

A statement from Mr Noakes’s daughter said her father was extremely distressed by the attack.

Because he had to stay in a respite centre after leaving hospital he could not make daily visits to his sick wife and he constantly relived the attack.

The judge said Mr Noakes had been in generally good physical health and living a happy life until Astin came on the scene.

''You decided, no doubt to feed some drug habit, that you would grab his property.’’

Astin took part in the proceedings via a prison video link.
