Christmas will be cold say weather experts

“As we head towards next week there are signs that we could get a few snow flurries over the Pennines. I don’t think it will be thick snow, just a dusting over the high areas.

“We’ve lost the milder weather and it’s looking like this December could be colder than normal, one of the coldest for 15 to 20 years.”

Meanwhile the Highways Agency has lifted some roadworks around the Kirklees area in a bid to ease congestion and help drivers make their journeys safely and reliably.

Until January 2 roadworks on the M62 between junctions 22 and 23 will be lifted, while the technology upgrade at Huddersfield’s exits will be suspended over the festive period.

All roadworks and lane restrictions will resume on January 2.

But motorists are being warned that roadworks at junction 27 of the M62 will remain in place, with delays predicted.

An agency spokesman said: “Over the Christmas and new year holiday people use our motorways and major A roads to visit friends and family, go shopping and make vital deliveries to shops and firms across the country.

“The agency will make those journeys smoother by suspending as many sets of roadworks as we can and providing up-to-the- minute journey planning advice.”
