Plans to improve estate backed

A BIG housing estate is to get a new look.
Kirklees Council’s Cabinet has approved plans that will transform the Fieldhead Estate in Birstall over the next few years.
The plans result from months of consultation with local people and were developed after looking at a wide range of schemes.
The solution agreed to have the greatest benefit will see about 150 unpopular flats and maisonettes demolished and replaced with family homes for rent or for sale.
Other plans include tackling the problems of drivers using certain streets as ‘rat runs’ and improving communal areas.
The work will also bring jobs and training opportunities for local people.
The affected properties will be demolished next year.
