Plans to improve estate backed

The approved owner of the new rented properties, Kirklees Community Association, will then re-develop the land and bring much-needed new family housing to the estate.

Before any work begins Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing staff will talk to each resident affected.

Those who need to move will receive care packages and staff will help make the moves as easy as possible.

KNH will also make every effort to keep people on the estate if they want to stay or move them if they want to leave.

The council’s Cabinet member for housing, Clr Liz Smaje, said: “This is very important for Fieldhead and Birstall.’’

Neighbourhood manager Robert Scott said: “This is not just about putting up a few houses. We are also working to transform the whole estate and we have £2m to help us do it.’’
