Brighouse green belt could vanish

Brighouse green belt could vanish
MASSIVE patches of green belt land could disappear from an area of Brighouse, it is feared.
Large areas of land in Clifton could vanish and be replaced by up to 800 homes, offices and industrial units.
The changes are possible as Calderdale’s Local Development Framework replaces the existing Unitary Development Plan to outline land use for the future.
Areas of land that could be hit by the changes include a 32-acre site off Victoria Avenue, where 500 houses could be built and a 12-acre piece of land off Clifton Common, which could be potentially used for offices, industry and 200 to 300 houses.
The proposals have been put forward by developers and the closing date for members of the public to submit their views is January 2.
Now a local action group in Clifton is asking members of the public to seriously consider what Brighouse needs.
Chairman Alan Reid said: “It certainly does not need more traffic congestion. If the proposals went ahead Brighouse would literally seize up. Clifton and Thornhills will be unable to sustain all this development.”
