Council apology to family in grave upset
COUNCIL officials have said “sorry” to a family – after covering a relative’s grave with soil.
They apologised to Mrs Susan Kenyon and her family after dumping soil from a newly-dug grave on Tony Kenyon’s last resting place in Kirkheaton Cemetery.
Mrs Kenyon, of Dalton, and her daughters discovered the mess on Christmas Day and were reduced to tears.
A council spokesman said: “We have been in contact with the family and apologised for the upset and concerns that they encountered, and particularly in relation to the time of year.
“The adjoining plot was required for a funeral this week, and needed to be prepared for that burial. Because of the ground conditions, the nature of cemetery site, and the need for machinery to excavate the adjoining plot, we temporarily put the earth from the plot on to the this adjoining grave plot.
