House of horror; elderly couple found dead

AN explosion of violence turned an elderly couple’s neat home into a house of horror.

Police believe that Kenneth Mann attacked his wife, Doreen, at their rural house on the outskirts of Dewsbury on December 23 and battered her to death in the lounge.

He is then thought to have killed himself in the bathroom.

Both were in their 80s.

It is understood that Mr Mann may have been suffering from mental health problems.

Once the grim discovery was made and the two bodies found police sealed off the narrow country lane and have guarded the scene ever since.

Even yesterday the red-brick home on Foxroyd Lane at Thornhill Edge, close to Whitley, remained taped off with a lone police officer in a car.

A police spokeswoman said officers went to the house on December 23 and found the bodies.

She said a post-mortem on Mrs Mann on Christmas Eve established that she died from a violent assault.
