Students stage ‘derby’

HUDDERSFIELD University staff and students joined forces to discover which department could donate the most blood in a day.

In conjunction with the National Blood Service the University held a Blood Derby, where students and staff squared up to each other, all with the aim of helping to save lives.

Students won, with 56 volunteers, compared with 34 staff volunteers. In total 91 people attended the session, with 80 of those able to donate blood.

The winning School was Art, Design & Architecture, with 17 donations, while the Services were tied, with Finance and Student Services both with five donations.

The session also aimed to raise awareness of the need for blood supplies, and to encourage current donors to tell others about giving blood.
