Drink drivers cause crashes on town roads
Dec 31 2008 by Andrew Hirst, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
POLICE nabbed six drink drivers in just four hours – and have condemned wayward motorists who were way over the limit.
Now they have given drivers a final warning about tonight – drink and drive and you are likely to get caught and see in 2009 inside a police cell.
And they also fear a New Year tragedy with many drink drivers caught after they were involved in crashes.
Pc Phil Shaw from Huddersfield traffic police said: “We have had some horrendous cases of drink driving this Christmas – and even had some people asking us for help for alcohol problems after we’ve caught them behind the wheel.”
The six drivers were caught in Huddersfield between 11pm on Christmas night and 3am on Boxing Day morning.
Three are understood to have been arrested after they were involved in crashes.
One man has been arrested three times on suspicion of drink driving since December 5.
