Tributes for Huddersfield charity workers killed in crash

MORE tributes have been paid to a Huddersfield couple killed in an horrific accident in Sheffield.

David and Sally Firth, of Crosland Moor, were highly regarded, both for their charity work and their commitment to the Spiritualist church.

The couple died in Sheffield’s Broomhill district, on their way to a Christmas function at a local church.

They were killed instantly when they were struck by two cars as they tried to cross a busy road.

A funeral service for the couple has now been arranged for Tuesday, January 13, at 12.15pm at the Huddersfield Spiritualist Church in Old Leeds Road.

Much of their charity work was dedicated to the Blackpool-based project, Donna’s Dream House, which helps terminally ill children and their families.

Len Curtis, chairman of the charity’s trustees, said: “They were a wonderful couple. David had been an extra in Coronation Street, The Bill, and various other programmes in his earlier days, and had an awful lot of connections with a lot of celebrities who knew him personally.

“He was a major fundraiser for us and will be sadly missed.”

And a spokesman for the charity added: “Thank you both so very much for bringing happiness and joy to the families and children who have stayed at Donna’s Dream House. You were both taken so sudden and tragically.

“You both will never be forgotten for the kindness, generosity and commitment that you always showed from the work you did for Donna’s Dream House.”
