Cash grants for Huddersfield arts groups

ARTS organisations in Huddersfield have received a great new year cash boost.

The Arts Council has given out a new round of grants to organisations in Yorkshire to promote arts activities.

Thirty-seven groups – including seven in the Huddersfield area – share £647,191,

Ivor Davies, the Arts Council’s director of performing arts, said: “Our investment in this region helps to get great art to everyone, supporting artists and organisations to bring new and exciting art to more people.”

Organisations benefiting from money locally included Holme Valley Sharing Memories Group at Holmfirth, which received £5,000.

The group is for elderly people in the Holme Valley and the money will pay for them to work with nine other groups and knitting artist Liz Noble to create an installation for the Phoenix Community Centre.

The project will help elderly people stay active and combat isolation.

Kirklees Council’s Culture and Leisure Services and Safer Stronger Communities received £5,000 for a project to promote cultural diversity in art and to take the arts to new audiences.
