Final curtain for amateur dramatics group

A POPULAR amateur dramatics group is staging its last production.

The Waring Green Players will perform the comedy classic When We Are Married on February 4, 5, 6 and 7.

It will be the last show the players will put on before the Brighouse group folds.

A gradual decline in membership has been the cause of the decision to close the group, which was formed in 1952.

But the players are determined to finish on a high and are asking people to come out in droves to be in the audience and support their final play.

Vice-chairman Rachel Owens said: “The reaction of most people has been to say that it’s a shame we can’t keep a well-established group going.

“But our feeling is that we should look on the positive side and feel proud that such a small number of loyal members have managed to keep the name of the Waring Green Players alive for as long as we have.”

The cast of the final play consists of many regular faces, as well as one or two actors who have returned specially for the event.
