A second shooting in middle of town
HUDDERSFIELD has been at the centre of another shooting, the second over Christmas and the new year.
Shots were fired in a crowded nightclub as revellers celebrated the new year.
But 2009 was under an hour old when the shots rang out inside Club Society in Kirkgate at the same time as a fracas erupted in the club.
Terrified partygoers fled outside the landmark building at 12.45am.
One man was hurt during the melee, but police have confirmed he was not shot. He suffered head injuries, described as minor.
He comes from Manchester.
Det Insp Andy Garnett, from Kirklees CID, said that immediately after the incident the club was evacuated and sealed off.
Forensic tests were carried out inside the club and Kirkgate was sealed off outside to preserve any possible evidence.
He added: “Some people did come forward as witnesses on the night and we would urge anyone else with information to contact us as a matter or urgency.”
