Children’s charity shops in 2009 appeal for donations

CHILDREN’S charity Barnados is making an urgent appeal for items to sell in its shops.

The charity, which has outlets at New Street in Huddersfield and others in Leeds, Bradford and Wakefield, said donating items for sale was just one way people could help it.

Debra Halliday, branch manager at Huddersfield, said: “This appeal is for anything such as bric-a-brac, clothes, books and toys.

“We greatly appreciate any donations, as all proceeds go towards helping children in all sorts of ways – such as the new Help Us Break the Cycle campaign that we launched at the beginning of December.”

She said taxpayers could also sign up to Gift Aid, enabling Barnados to claim an extra 28p from the Government for every £1 donated.

Barnados provides help for youngsters suffering problems such as abuse, homelessness and poverty – but needs £14m to maintain its existing services in Yorkshire alone.

Debbie said: “It’s nice to say a big thankyou to those whose support helps us to help children.”
