New support group for ADHD sufferers

A SPECIALIST service is to be launched for adults with attention deficit hyperactive disorder.

People over 18 who believe they may have the condition will be able to have more support while they get treatment in Kirklees.

The new service is aimed at providing assessment and diagnosis for adults who were not diagnosed with the condition while they were children.

Little is known about whether attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) can occur in adults without first appearing in childhood.

But many young adults are often not diagnosed and may have had the condition since they were young.

The South West Yorkshire Mental Health Trust, which provides mental health and learning disability services in Kirklees, will manage the support service, which is due to be launched in April.

A spokesman said: “The new support group, which consists of a number of people who care for someone with ADHD, are to be thanked as they appealed for funding for the service for a number of years.
