£1m bid to save church
Jan 5 2009 by Emma Davison, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
“We will be retaining much of the building’s heritage and the exterior of the building is receiving a major overhaul.
“The windows have been refurbished or replaced with matching frames and re-roofing of the whole structure has already been completed.”
At the entrance of the church the architects will be creating a new lounge and meeting area complete with kitchen facilities, which will allow for small gatherings.
The biggest change will be seen in the basement, now protected from the previous flooding problems, where a nursery for up to 40 children is being created.
Gill said: “We have raised a lot of money but we’ve still got a long way to go.
“But we are determined to push ahead and raise the £1m and fulfil this vision we have of the church once again becoming an important part in the community’s life.
“We hope that all this work we are doing will ensure that the church serves the community for many more years to come.”
The church’s address is: Hunslet Baptist Church, Low Road, Leeds LS10 1QR.
