Finally...safety barriers for M62

The work will be completed by mid-February.

Highways Agency project manager, Steven Wright, said: “The work will provide safer journeys for travellers along this stretch of the M62.

“As well as providing new safety barriers and improving existing ones, the carriageway will also be resurfaced and new road studs and lining put in place.”

The Examiner launched its Barrier Safety campaign in 1996 but it was not until the tragic death of Golcar mother-of-one Dawn Farrar, in July 2006, that the Highways Agency confirmed work would be carried out.

Mrs Farrar died when the car was in collision with another vehicle and careered into a lamp-post not protected by a barrier.
