Huddersfield maternity services call

Alanna said: “We’ve started this campaign because we don’t want anyone to have to go through what we went through.

“The support we have had already in such a short space of time has been amazing.

“And it’s not just people from Huddersfield – people from all over the country have joined the Facebook group.

“It’s a strong subject and a lot of people are moved by it.”

Alanna had a trouble-free pregnancy and was due to give birth on September 13.

But she discovered Maisie’s heart rate was dangerously slow during a final routine health check at Mill Hill Health Centre in Dalton on September 8.

An ambulance was called to rush her to Halifax just after 11am that day.

After a half-hour drive, Maisie was born at 12.12pm.

But she had suffered severe brain damage as a result of her umbilical cord being wrapped around her leg, cutting off oxygen to her brain.

The couple took the heartbreaking decision to take her off life-support three days later.

Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust said there was no evidence the extra journey time had made a difference.
