Walk for bird spotters

COUNTRYSIDE Officer Richard Aspinall be helping people identify 'Birds in Winter' when he leads a walk around Oakwell Hall and Country Park.

The walk is on Sunday, January 25, and as well as common birds, Richard will be hoping to spot some less common feathered visitors.

The walk starts at 1pm and will last around two hours. It is free to take part but places must be booked in advance by contacting Oakwell Hall and Country Park, Nutter Lane, tel: 01924 326240.

A limited number of binoculars are available for this walk – people should indicate if they require binoculars when booking places.

The walk coincides with the RSPB’s ‘Big Garden Bird Watch’ over the weekend January 24 and 25.

The ‘Big Garden Bird Watch’, which is celebrating its 30th birthday, is the world's biggest bird survey and provides a vital snapshot of the UK’s birds each winter by involving members of the public spending an hour spotting and counting the different birds in their gardens.
