Huge support for Move Our Maternity Services back campaign

The issue of birthing services in Huddersfield is back on the agenda with a campaign by Golcar couple Alanna Delahaye and Glynn Bates. They have started the Move Our Maternity Services back to Huddersfield movement in memory of their daughter Maisie, who died last September. SAM CASEY reports on the support for the couple’s cause.

ALANNA Delahaye had enjoyed a trouble-free pregnancy and was due to give birth at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary birth centre in September.

But problems emerged when she attended a final routine health-check on September 8 at Mill Hill Health Centre in Dalton.

A nurse discovered Maisie’s heart rate was dangerously slow and an ambulance was called to rush her to Halifax.

After a half-hour drive, Maisie was born at 12.12pm.

But she had suffered a lack of oxygen to her brain because her umbilical cord was wrapped around her leg.

The severe brain damage she suffered as a result was irreparable.

Alanna and her partner Glynn Bates took the heartbreaking decision to turn off her life support after two days.
