Students police streets

STUDENT police took part in a high-profile operation in Huddersfield.

The 25 student police officers from the force’s Training and Development Centre joined with the Vehicle and Operator Services Agency, DVLA, Trading Standards, the Driving Standards Agency, Border and Immigration Authority, Environmental Health Officers and Warrants Enforcement.

They were at the side of several roads in the Huddersfield area yesterday trying to catch travelling criminals and drivers flouting traffic laws.

Sgt Trevor Vessey, responsible for training, said: “They were focusing on mobile criminality, reducing and detecting burglary dwellings within the district and gathering intelligence.

“The aim is to frustrate the activities of criminals who use vehicles and ensure that drivers are complying with the law.
