Huddersfield shop now takes euros; picture and story
“We’ve said that we will accept change and that we will treat every euro as a pound. So if the price on something is £4.50 it will be the same as €4.50.
“If someone gives us, say, a 10-euro note we will give them change to the same amount in sterling.
“Customers seem to have responded really well to the idea. I’ve had a couple of customers already buying cards with the change they’ve found in their purses or when they were spring cleaning!
“The Technical College and the university do foreign exchanges and we do get European students in the shop. So this will also give them – as well as people visiting from abroad – the opportunity to spend their money.’’
Alison said she will be putting up signs in the shop to let customers know she is now accepting the currency.
The euro exchange rate is now almost one to one against the sterling.
Alison said: “There is a near-parity at the moment, so I thought we could go that little bit further and offer an extra incentive to customers by saying that we will treat the money like for like.
