Huddersfield shop now takes euros; picture and story

“As far as I know we are the first shop in Huddersfield to accept the euro. We’re definitely the first shop in Marsh to do this, but other shops have expressed an interest too.

“So who knows, Marsh may become the village to come to spend your euros!

“It’s something different that we are able to offer and I think the whole of Huddersfield should get on board.

“With the currencies being so near to parity and with the credit crunch hitting everybody we’ve got to make sure people are cashing in on every opportunity– as well as giving them a nice reward for their spring cleaning!”

This month a tourist village became the first in Britain to accept the euro on par with the pound.

Historic Dunster in Somerset made the move after stores in Northern Ireland enjoyed a mini-boom before Christmas as shoppers from the Republic crossed the border to take advantage of the crash of the pound against the euro.

Despite the weak pound the euro is still the number one currency for UK travellers, says the International Currency Exchange.
