Warning after horses let out
Jan 8 2009 by Hazel Ettienne, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
A HORSE owner averted tragedy after someone let out her two much-loved animals.
Linthwaite woman Helen Stratton has now warned people to be on their guard after the men released May and Bee.
Luckily a neighbour alerted her that the horses were loose just before they reached busy Manchester Road.
Mrs Stratton said: “I was very lucky that I received the call in time to go and call the horses just before they made it on to the main road. Otherwise it could have been a much worse situation.”
Mrs Stratton had been to tend the horses during the morning at her stables in Flankgate before returning to her home at nearby Hillside View.
She saw two men in a white Transit van rummaging in a skip for scrap metal. She later discovered an old tumble dryer had disappeared from near the stables.
The men were both in their 30s with local accents. One was slim and the other was stockier.
