Jan 9 2009 By Andrew Jackson
A MAN shot by police responding to a domestic incident remained seriously ill in hospital tonight.
The 44-year-old was shot just after midnight, after firearms officers responded to a 999 call at a house in Whinney Hill Park, Brighouse, West Yorkshire.
After a disturbance in the house, police firearms were discharged.
The man, named locally as Bartholomew "Baz" Buckley, had been operated on at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, but was now out of surgery and his health was improving, a spokesman for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said.
The IPCC is now investigating the shooting.
Lee Wharfe, 42, said he had known Mr Buckley since the 1990s, and had seen his friend hours before the shooting.
"He would call into my house sometimes for a cup of coffee and a chat, and he did that yesterday, at around 2.30 in the afternoon," he said.
