CHILDREN who go to Ashbrow Infant and Nursery School have a “magical childhood”, thanks to dedicated staff, supportive parents and a loyal community base.
The school on Ash Meadow Close at Sheepridge is a beacon for the whole community and wholeheartedly welcomes people from its diverse and challenging population.
As a Forest School its focus on the environment, nature and the great outdoors is unrivalled and its children are enthusiastic and motivated learners who love coming to school and are proud of it.
Head teacher Dora Plant is inspirational and visionary and genuinely cares about the wellbeing of every one of the school’s 172 pupils.
“There are unsung heroes everywhere within this school and community and we are extremely grateful for the time and effort which they bring to this school and help make it into the place it is,” said Mrs Plant.
“We see it as important to mix and understand the families within our community and from further afield. We are not insular; we love to share all our special facilities and welcome other schools to experience what we have to offer.”
Government inspectors were so impressed that they graded the school as outstanding after it achieved the highest grade in every area.
They said: “In addition to ensuring children have a solid academic grounding the school very successfully gives them a magical childhood.
“The Forest Garden is the jewel in the school’s crown. This outdoor wonderland captures the imagination of pupils and adults alike and is enormously successfully in encouraging first-hand learning.
“It also contributes impressively to pupils’ physical and emotional wellbeing, helping them solve problems and face the many challenges to life outside school.”
The Ofsted inspectors also noted the harmony between pupils and adults from a multitude of ethnic groups, the imaginative and stimulating curriculum, the strength of its pastoral care and talented teaching and support staff.
