Underwater ironers break world record - picture!

BRITAIN’S all-conquering Olympians gave the country a rare opportunity to laud it over the Australians last summer.

Now three divers from Huddersfield have helped to bolster our bragging rights in the competitive arena of extreme ironing.

David Colley, Colin Smith and Andy Briggs were among a group of divers who smashed the underwater ironing world record, previously held by the Aussies.

They joined about 130 people at a water-filled quarry in south-east Wales for the attempt on Sunday.

The challenge was to film as many people as possible simultaneously ironing garments underwater.

In the event 86 were captured on camera within the allotted 10 minutes, annihilating the Australian record of 72.

It rubs further salt in the wounds for those Down Under after they only managed to finish sixth in the medal table at the Beijing Olympics, two places behind Team GB.
