Chairman Len Curtis led tributes to the couple, saying: “David and Sally will be sadly missed by all who knew them.
“Without their help we would never have been presented with the Queens Award in 2006.
“They expected no thanks for what they did, but their family and friends can be very proud of both of their achievements in life. I thank them for being patrons of Donna’s Dream House.”
David was a pupil at Moor End Junior School, Crosland Moor, and became a mechanic. He was described as a cheerful, outgoing person.
He became close friend of comedian Ken Dodd and met a host of stars during his time working as an extra on Coronation Street, The Bill, Inspector Frost and Where The Heart Is.
He encouraged the actors to donate items in support of his charitable work.
Sally was born in Birkby and went to Fartown High School, where she was remember as a pupil who could often make her teachers laugh.
