Mourners pay tribute to David and Sally Firth

She worked in a nursing home as a carer and loved knitting, sewing and tapestry, winning prizes at shows, including the Great Yorkshire. Her talent at dress-making was evident when she made her own bride’s dress and her bridesmaids’ dresses.

The couple met while working at Asda, where Sally worked in the cafe and David worked in the warehouse.

Mr Mair told the congregation that Sally noticed David looking at her, so asked him if he wanted to take her out for a drink.

They were married at Brighouse Spiritualist Church and later became members of the Huddersfield church.

Mr Mair added: “Their hearts were most definitely in the right place.

“Nothing highlighted this more than their work for Donna’s Dream Home.”

Mourners sang Matheson’s O Love That Will Not Let Me Go and heard poems read by family members.

A collection in aid of Donna’s Dream House was held in the couple’s memory.
