We’re off to Borneo; story and picture of village school pupils
THIRTEEN sixth-form pupils at a village school are swapping the classroom for a nature reserve in Borneo.
They will spend time working with young children in orphanages and helping rare orang-utans in the wild.
It is a life-changing time for the group of youngsters from Rastrick High School and two of their teachers.
Year 12 pupil Rachel White, of Edgerton, said it was a chance to help others and also gain experience of the world themselves.
Rachel, 16, said: “A group of 13 students volunteered to go and we’re going to be doing some conservation and community work.
“It could be we are involved in building a playground for children or working with the wildlife.
“We are all really excited about it; opportunities like this don’t come along often so we wanted to grab it and hopefully we will learn from it.
“It will be good to see our work benefit so many other people. That is a big reward for us.”
