Mods and rockers unite to save biker cafe

MODS and Rockers are to unite to save a bikers’ cafe.

The traditionally rival youth movements, who notoriously fought each other in the 1960s, are to party together in a bid to keep the well-known Big D’s Bikers’ Cafe-Bar open.

And an Almondbury woman is playing a key role in the move.

Big D’s, in Halifax Road, Todmorden, is one of West Yorkshire’s few remaining biker bars. But the venue is expected to close in February.

Now Almondbury scooter enthusiast Michaela Bray, 37, has organised Pistons at Dawn, a rare co-operation between bikers and scooterists.

The event tomorrow, from 1pm until late, includes a customised motor show, live bands, rally DJs, a sleepover and breakfast (booked in advance).
