Youngsters’ sporting success

A TEAM of under-11 girls and boys from Kirklees won a sports elimination event.

They came top in the West Yorkshire Sportshall Elimination Match at the Richard Dunn Sports Centre at Odsal, Bradford.

They now go forward as West Yorkshire favourites to the Yorkshire and Humberside regional finals in Halifax on Sunday, February 22.

The girls team won their competition outright and the boys were joint winners with Bradford, last year’s regional winners, who had to settle for second place overall.

The 15-strong teams each competed in 16 field and track events and notched up 15 first places.

And to top that success Dominic Ellan, a pupil at Golcar Junior and Infant School, was named Man of the Match.

Both teams won their 1+1, 4x1, six-person paarluff and hurdles relays and the boys also won the team Grand Prix event.
