2008 - what a washout! Facts and figures on last year's weather in Huddersfield

LAST year will go down as the third wettest year since 1914, records show.

Huddersfield’s weather gave us a constant diet of ... rain, rain and yet more rain.

But as well as being one of the wettest years on record, 2008 also saw an increase in temperature.

In Yorkshire, Met Office records show January and February were unusually warm with a 2.5 degree increase with an average temperature of 8.2°C, while May was also two degrees warmer than usual.

But the increase in warm weather was matched by an increase in rainfall across the county.

This time last year there was double the amount of rain (182mm) while March saw an increase of 23%, April was up 39% and June had 18% more rain than the average for the month.

The trend continued in the second half of the year with rain in July up 111%, up 82% in August, up 46% in September and up 13% in October.

Overall 1122.4mm fell on Yorkshire in 2008.

The rainfall was so bad that several events were affected.
