Colne Valley MP Kali Mountford to stand down at election
Jan 17 2009 by Neil Atkinson, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
COLNE Valley MP Kali Mountford today admitted that standing down was a hard choice to make.
Ms Mountford, who was first elected in the Labour landslide of 1997, added that the decision would end a dream she had had since she was just 14.
She said: “I have had to come to this decision reluctantly. I love the job and have some fantastic memories, both in Parliament and in the constituency.
“The Colne Valley is a great place to live and work and the people – even those that disagree with you – are straightforward in their views but considerate and courteous at the same time.
“I will continue to represent the constituency until the next election. My local party will be selecting a new candidate and I will work as hard as I can to make sure this constituency remains a Labour constituency.”
Ms Mountford has written to Labour activists in Colne Valley thanking them for their help.
