Sanam Navsarka murder trial: Sanam 'put in cupboard for crying'

The cupboard where Sanam was put

Just hours later Anwar knocked on her window to say Sanam had drowned in the bath.

When Miss McGlade went round she said that Sanam’s hair was damp but not wet.

She also said that around a week before, she told the couple about a friend whose baby had died after drowning in the bath.

Under cross-examination, Gilbert Gray QC for Anwar, asked if she ever thought of Sanam as a poorly girl.

Miss McGlade replied: “No, if I thought there was something wrong I would have phoned social services or the police myself.”

Mr Gray then questioned if Sanam could have sustained the bruises because of her bowed legs.

Ms McGlade said that she thought Sanam was wearing shoes that were too small.

Navsarka and Anwar deny murder. Anwar denies causing or allowing the death of a child. Navsarka pleaded guilty to an alternative charge of failing to protect her daughter.

The case continues.
