Village’s wartime plans!

VILLAGERS have been urged to help put the clock back for a 1940s weekend.

People in Meltham are planning a number of events with a wartime theme for a community weekend to be staged this summer.

Now they have appealed for memorabilia and photos capturing village life during the war years to put on display.

Meltham Town Council member Shirley Watson said exhibitions of period photos and items would be held in three places, the Carlile Institute, the town hall and the fire station community room.

It is hoped that the community weekend – to be held from Friday, July 17 to Sunday the 19th – will also include a parade of vehicles from the period, as well as an army tank!

The weekend is the idea of Pam Cox, licensee of the Waggon and Horses.

Now local voluntary groups are being contacted to drum up support for the venture.

Clr Watson said anyone with items for display should contact her on 01484 850857.
