Plans to merge All Saints College and move Fartown High

A MERGER is on the cards for Huddersfield’s only Catholic high school.

All Saints Catholic College could merge with a Calderdale school – with the two sharing a new site.

And there are also proposals to move the existing Fartown High School on to the Bradley site vacated by All Saints.

All Saints head teacher John Fowler stressed that no decision had been made about the move to Rastrick, following a possible merger with St Catherine’s Catholic High School, Halifax.

He said: “It’s one possibility which the diocese is looking at for the future. There’s no guarantee that it will happen, even if it does it won’t happen until 2015 at the earliest so it won’t effect any child who’s currently at All Saints.”

St Catherine’s was taken into special measures in 2006 after school inspectors branded it as "inadequate" for failing to give pupils an acceptable standard of education.

Meanwhile, the new Kirklees education chief has hinted that Fartown High could move from its current site on Woodhouse Hall Road to the All Saints site on Bradley Bar.
