AVERAGE house prices in the Yorkshire and the Humber region are £130,048 – 4.7 times the typical annual earnings for full-time workers in the region.

According to the GMB union five areas in Yorkshire are above the affordability range, which is 4.5 times above average earnings.

Kirklees and Calderdale are two of 10 areas in Yorkshire and Humberside where house prices are within the long-term affordability range of 4.5 times the average earnings of those who live in the area.

The other places are Sheffield, Rotherham, Hull, Doncaster, Bradford, Barnsley, North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire.

Houses in North Yorkshire, Leeds, York, the East Riding and Wakefield are deemed to be unaffordable for the average person.

Average house prices in North Yorkshire are £184,814 which is 6.3 times the average earnings for full-time workers who live in the county.

However, the trend is reversed in Hull, where the average cost of a house is £84,540, which is 3.6 times the average earnings of workers and in the house price affordability range.
