A YOUNG woman and several drivers could be key witnesses in our bid to catch two street robbers.
The thieves were walking with the woman and then swore at her moments before robbing a teenager.
Many motorists saw what happened next to a busy main Huddersfield road at 4pm on Wednesday.
It is now vital she comes forward as we believe she could name the attackers.
The 17-year-old youth was walking down Outcote Bank towards Manchester Road away from Huddersfield town centre when he spotted the two men and the woman emerging from Prospect Street next to Huddersfield fire station.
The woman walked away from the two towards the nearby Lidl supermarket and as she did she turned towards the two men.
But as she did, one swore at her.
The teenager continued down the road and realised the two men were following him.
They caught up with him and began to chat, but became agitated as they claimed they had both been in prison.
One then asked for “a dollar” and as they reached the junction with Bankfield Road this mugger claimed he had a knife and showed him a red handle featuring black diamonds sticking out of his front pocket.
The victim ran into the middle of Manchester Road, but the robbers caught him and he was head-butted.
It was still daylight and busy at the time so several people would have seen what happened and we would urge them to come forward.
The thieves stole the victim’s wallet and fled down Manchester Road towards Longroyd Bridge.
Both are white and in their early 20s. The knifeman has short dark hair and wore a short black jacket. His accomplice, who head-butted the victim, wore a grey hooded jacket.
Witnesses should phone Det Sgt Jim Carter on 01484 436575 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
