Joiner sawed off his hand then picked it up

JOINER Jeremy Lonergan shocked colleagues when he chopped his hand off with a power saw – and calmly picked it up from the floor.
The 34-year-old was cutting wood to make a bannister at a Batley house when he caught his hand underneath the rotating blade and cut it clean off.
Amazingly doctors were able to save his hand in a 12-hour operation and now he can move his fingers. Over time he should gain full use of it.
And although it looks slightly odd – he lost his little and ring finger in the battle to save it – he is delighted with the progress and grateful to surgeon Sanjib Majumder, of Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield.
Handyman Jeremy was working with a couple of colleagues on the house when the accident happened on December 11 last year.
