National enterest expressed in Royds Hall High School conference
NATIONAL interest has been shown in a conference at a Paddock school which predicts GCSE results – while pupils still have time to improve.
Year 11 pupils at Royds Hall High calculated their exam results using grades they have already achieved – such as SAT scores.
The calculations were created by Professor David Jesson, at York University.
Deputy headteacher Jeremy Haigh said students felt the conference was helpful and wanted to see it done every year – with an extra event for Year 10 pupils too.
He added: “The work that we have carried out at Royds Hall has received national interest.”
The conference explained the system to students so they could identify for themselves the areas they needed to work on.
The day before the event, they were given the results of their mock exams.
During the conference they recorded their own data in booklets, then heard presentations from headteacher Melanie Williams, assistant headteacher Angela Lunness and Mr Haigh.
They were also given talks by the careers service, to help them decide on their options after GCSEs.
After identifying areas where they needed help, pupils can now attend Saturday classes, half-term and Easter holiday revision sessions and catch-up evening classes for five different subjects.
