Malik lends a hand at new centre

LOCAL MP Shahid Malik was on hand to help out with ongoing refurbishment efforts at Skelmanthorpe Youth and Community Association.

He was joined by volunteers including Vanessa Marsden and Terry Sigworth.

Vanessa , who chairs the association, said: “Shahid has supported and encouraged the project to move forward and we are really grateful for the interest he has shown.”

After two years of fundraising SYCA hope to open the new centre, comprising a club room, sports hall, meeting room, and offices for youth services in Spring 2009.

The first phase of the development has seen the building of new offices, lift shaft, lobby and remodelling of internal walls to form new toilets, store and admin office.

Ground source heat pumps are to be installed to provide under floor heating.
