A MAN has had his head shaved for charity after growing it for 18 months after his Dad was diagnosed with cancer.
When Stevie Roberts, of Birkby, Huddersfield, found out his dad Dave had bladder cancer, he pledged that he wouldn’t have his hair cut until Dave was in remission.
Just before Christmas Dave, 61, from Formby on Merseyside, got the all clear and, true to his word, Stevie had the chop during half time at Southport FC’s home game against Torquay Utd.
Stevie, 36, said: “It went brilliantly, we raised nearly £500 on the day so we’ve got about £650 in total now.
“We had two pipers and a drummer come along, which really made it special.
“We chose to have them because we’re donating half the money to Help For Heroes.
“My Dad is an ex-squaddie and when I decided to do this I asked him who he wanted the money going to and he said Clatterbridge Hospital, which was where he had his chemotherapy and radiotherapy, but then Help For Heroes came along too.
“I’d had long hair for about two years and said I was willing to have it shaved, so we decided to split the money down the middle between the two.
